State Workman's Compensation Certificate

Safety Policy

These general safety rules are designed to provide you with knowledge of the recognized and established safe practices and procedures that apply to many of the work situation you may encounter while employed at this organization.  It would be impossible to cover every work situation.  If you are in doubt about the safety of any condition, practice, or procedure consult your supervisor for guidance.

 

1.       Accident Reporting:  Report all accident or near misses to your supervisor before the end of your shift.  Falsification of company records, including employment applications, time records or safety documentation will not be tolerated.  If you are injured, you are required to visit Arbor Occupational Medicine (275 S. Main St., Longmont, other locations available).  All employees who visit Arbor will be drug tested.  If you test positive for ANY reason, you will be terminated.

2.       Weekly Safety Meeting:  all employees are required to attend weekly safety meetings on Monday mornings at 6am.

3.       Hazard Reporting:  Employees are responsible for notifying a supervisor immediately of any unsafe condition and/or practice.

4.       Alcohol or Illegal Drugs:  We will not employee anyone who takes illegal drugs at any time.  We have the right to conduct random drug tests, if you test positive for ANY reason you will be terminated.  No illegal drugs or alcohol will be allowed on the work site.   Employees must notify their supervisor of any prescription drugs that might affect their judgment. 

5.       Ladders:  Beware of overhead cables/wires when carrying ladders.  Be sure ladder feet are placed on stable ground (35o angle maximum).  Do not move ladders when extended.  If your ladder is damaged, let Paul know so he can get it repaired before someone gets hurt.

6.       Boom Lifts:  You must wear a safety harness attached to the lift at all times (even to drive the lift on the ground).  You must be approved/certified by Paul to drive a lift.

7.       Smoking:  Due to the use of hazardous chemicals and insurance requirements, no smoking is allowed on the jobsite, except in designated areas during your breaks.

8.       Heavy Lifting:  Two people are required to lift the power washer and spray pumps.

9.       Roofs:   Always wear a harness and tie off when going on a roof, do not go on a roof with snow or ice.  Ropes and harnesses are provided in each van. 

10.    Paint Sprayers & Spray wands:  Do not place gas pumps inside building or garage.  Orange spray tip guards must be used at all times.  Do not point spray wands at anyone whether the pump is running or not.  Check power cords to be sure they are not damaged (no damage to rubber coating or plug)  If you need a new cord contact Paul.

11.    Ladders on vans:  Secure bungies on front & rear of all ladders on top of vans.  Maximum of 3 ladders per stack.  Do not lean ladders on van or anything unstable.  Do not drop ladders off of van or building, someone could get injured below and the ladder damaged.

12.    Clothing:  Painters pants must be worn at all times to prevent skin from hazardous chemicals.

13.    Respirators:  All employees inside building must wear a respirator when paint/lacquer is being sprayed.  Employee spraying exterior paint must also wear a respirator (please check filters regularly).

14.    Eye Protection:  Eye protection must be worn during power washing and paint/lacquer spraying by everyone inside the building, and person spraying exterior paint.

15.    Seat Belts:  When driving/riding in company vans you must wear your seat belt.

16.    Driving vans:  You must have a valid drivers license to drive a company van.    Please do not speed, and drive carefully!  When parking on the job site, be sure that your van is not blocking traffic, and keep the doors closed at all times.

17.    Hard Hats:  Read signs – OSHA requires hard hats on commercial job sites.  Your entire crew will be liable for the fine by OSHA, so remind each other.

18.    Horseplay:  Wrestling, running, pushing, throwing any item in play or other disorderly conduct is forbidden on the job.

19.    Hazardous Materials:  follow proper use and handling procedures for all hazardous materials.  Do not use a chemical if you are not familiar with the hazardous properties or have not received and been trained on the required protective equipment.  MSDS sheets are located in a binder in each van.   ALL HAZARDOUS CHEMICALS MUST BE  IN CONTAINERS MARKED “HAZARDOUS CHEMICAL” – WITH THE NAME OF THE CHEMICAL LISTED ON IT”

20.    First Aid Boxes:  are located in each van.  Please let me know if you need an item restocked.
