Perfection Painting Company
In
1991, Paul Ferris and Karen Wagner founded Perfection Painting Company. They put
an advertisement in a local newspaper and began their business by painting the
exteriors of residential homes. Since that time, the company has grown from a
small and dedicated handful of people to 60 full-time job coordinators, painters
and laborers.
From
residential exterior paint jobs, Perfection Painting grew to become a painting
subcontractor for a larger painting company, eventually landing a contract with
Bronsert Homes, the company’s first new homebuilder contract. “We remained in
the custom home painting business until 1996 when we moved into multifamily
residence painting,” says Wagner. “Currently, 70 percent of our work is in
multifamily housing, 20 percent is in commercial work and the remaining 10
percent is single-family residential.”
Perfection Painting offers the benefits of a large, well-trained staff with the
personalized service that is the hallmark of smaller, tightly run organizations.
Ferris works directly with the general contractors, project managers and
superintendents, along with the company’s job coordinator and chief estimator
assigned to a specific project. “Perfection Painting does not subcontract any of
its work,” says Ferris. “All work is performed by our employees, allowing
greater control during the entire project.” A designated project scheduler works
directly with the contractor to ensure all work is done on time and up to par.
“Our goal is to keep the project on schedule, and we will do whatever we can to
make that happen.”
The benefit of
having a large staff and owning equipment is that Perfection Painting can
utilize resources as necessary, without having to call in outside companies.
“Our large staff gives us the ability to move needed manpower to specific jobs
in order to keep them on schedule,” says Wagner. The company’s equipment
includes two 60-foot JLG zoom booms, two Geni 60-foot booms, 15 one-ton vans, 35
spray pumps and three power washers, as well as Type 1A industrial heavy-duty
ladders and OSHA-certified safety harnesses and equipment. “We are
safety-certified by the state of Colorado, and we
have an in-house weekly safety program,” she says. “We take pride in our company
and its professionalism.”
As Perfection
Painting takes on larger and more prolific work, maintaining the schedule and
the budget have become paramount concerns. The Summit
in Broomfield, Colo., a 500-unit apartment complex with a four-story parking
garage, is the company’s largest project to date. The project was particularly
challenging due to the variety of products and applications used, including
latex, oil, epoxy, urethane, concrete sealer, xylene sealers and urethane
caulking. The job was completed on schedule and without a single safety
violation during the 18 months of work. “We were very happy with the outcome of
this project,” says Ferris. “It was completed on schedule and everyone was very
pleased with the final product.”
Another successful
project, the 144-unit Lincoln Pointe Lofts, was completed a full three months
ahead of schedule.
In an increasingly
complicated and challenging arena for subcontractors, Perfection Painting
continues to grow and develop in spite of rising gas prices and rising insurance
and labor costs. The company continues to make adjustments to keep ahead of
challenges and to add services while maintaining the schedule, minding the
budget and doing an excellent job on site.
“We believe it is
important to have good office personnel that can schedule and coordinate each
project,” says Wagner. “We know the importance of keeping the project on
schedule and of getting the job done.”
